Proceedings were stayed against a Red Deer man charged with attempted murder in an August shooting in Mountview.

Following a preliminary hearing on Friday in Red Deer provincial court, Crown prosecutor Ann MacDonald requested the stay of proceedings which means the accused is no longer being prosecuted, but the Crown can bring the charges back within one year.

Joshua Christopher Severin, 23, was charged with attempted murder with a firearm, using a firearm to commit an indictable offence, pointing a firearm and possession of a prohibited firearm.

Red Deer RCMP previously reported that a 21-year-old woman had been taken to hospital just before noon on Aug. 14 with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to her leg and abdomen. She was brought to hospital by friends.
