Award-winning Indigenous folk-pop group to perform in Red Deer on March 2

With cultures spanning Canadian history and geography, award-winning Indigenous-folk-pop group Twin Flames will perform next month in Red Deer.

The indie duo, a double winner of the 2022 Canadian Folk Music Awards (for Vocal Group of the Year and Indigenous Songwriters of the Year), puts on a one-of-a-kind show coming March 2 to the Elks Lodge.

Ottawa-based husband and wife team of Chelsey June (of Cree, Algonquin, Metis and settler heritage) and Jaaji (of Inuk and Mohawk background) have accumulated more than 35 awards and nominations since forming their group eight years ago.

Twin Flames’ songs are delivered through a mix of English, French, and Inuktitut, and have helped this duo earn a unique place among contemporary music-makers.

The sound is a blend of indie rock, synth, and folk-pop. Soundscapes are created using Indigenous spirit flutes, traditional drums and western instruments, unusual musical arrangements, harmonies, and rhythmic patterns.

Through the group’s unique approach to music, as well as on-stage humour and storytelling, Twin Flames will allow audience members “to feel a human connection.”

The show, presented by Central Music Festival, is on at 8 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 6315 Horn St. For more information, please visit centralmusicfest.com.
