A Bashaw man was fined $2,300 for a single-vehicle collision that left his passenger dead in 2016.

Jacob Stahl, 26, was convicted of careless driving last week in Red Deer provincial court.

Charges of impaired driving causing death and driving with an alcohol level over 0.08 causing death were withdrawn.

Stahl was charged after a vehicle went off the road and rolled near Clive about 12:45 a.m. on July 29, 2016. A 23-year-old passenger from Drumheller was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stahl and a second passenger were treated for minor injuries.
