Plea negotiations are underway for a Bashaw woman accused of setting her house on fire in an attempt to kill her husband and children.

The 43-year-old woman, whose name is withheld to conceal the identities of her children, was arrested on charges of attempted murder just before Christmas in 2010.

The woman had earlier pleaded not guilty and asked to be tried by Court of Queen’s Bench judge alone. Setting of trial dates was adjourned to accommodate a series of psychiatric tests.

Defence counsel Brian Beresh of Calgary, represented by a lawyer from Red Deer, has asked that his client’s election be changed to provincial court judge to accommodate plea negotiations.

Beresh and his client are scheduled for an appearance in Red Deer provincial court on Nov. 19.
