Baumgarte expected to plead guilty in kidnapping of Penhold teen

A Red Deer man charged with posing as a police officer and abducting and sexually assaulting a teenage girl is expected to plead guilty in November.

A Red Deer man charged with posing as a police officer and abducting and sexually assaulting a teenage girl is expected to plead guilty in November.

Gerard John Baumgarte, 57, appeared in Court of Queen's Bench in Red Deer on Friday.

He is expected to plead guilty on Nov. 2.

Baumgarte was charged after a 16-year-old Penhold girl was abducted on Feb. 26.

RCMP said the girl was taken by a man dressed in a police uniform. His vehicle was complete with flashing blue and red lights.

Twelve charges have been laid against him, include kidnapping, two counts of sexual assault causing bodily harm, unlawful confinement, uttering threats, impersonating a peace officer and several firearms offences.
