‘Big bang’ precedes Red Deer house fire, says neighbour

A Red Deer home was heavily damaged by fire early Friday morning.

Jary Margeson, who lives next door to the house on Lamont Close that caught fire, said he heard a “big bang” around 3 a.m. before seeing the neighbour’s home burning.

He said he went outside to see if everyone was OK, and found his neighbours had already left the building.

Debris from the fire landed in Margeson’s backyard, even hitting the side of his home. He said it’s fortunate there is a fair amount of space between his home and his neighbour’s house.

“Good thing it wasn’t windy, too,” Margeson added.

Margeson and his family were evacuated from their home during the fire, but were able to return around 5:30 a.m.
