Blackfalds CAO Myron Thompson to retire in March

Myron Thompson, Blackfalds Chief Administrative Officer for the past nine years, will retire in March.

The Town of Blackfalds made the announcement Wednesday, citing Thompson’s hope to spend more time with is family and friends, as well as travel.

“I’ve seen tremendous positive change and progress in the community over the term that I have been CAO and have been very proud to be part of it,” Thompson said.

The long-time municipal government employee said the last night year especially, have been a major highlight.

“There are so many accomplishments achieved over my term as CAO, all thanks to the efforts of many. One that stands out, mainly to the complexity, is the Gregg Street/Womacks Road realignment, Eagle Builders Centre parking lot, and Border Paving Plaza,” he said.

“I’ve enjoyed my 33-year career in municipal government, but by far, my nine years with the Town of Blackfalds has been the highlight… Mainly because of the great staff, the growth of the community, and overall progressiveness of the organization.”

Mayor Jamie Hoover said it has been extremely beneficial to have someone with such a wide range of knowledge supporting the town.

“The Town of Blackfalds has been fortunate to have Myron Thompson culminate his long municipal career in his role as our CAO for nine years, and his contribution and impact during a milestone period in this Town’s history,” said Hoover.

“He is leaving his staff and senior administration in a strong position for success after he begins his well-deserved retirement from his role. On behalf of this Council, I wish Myron and [his wife] Cheryl all the best in this next chapter.”
