The Town of Blackfalds has hired a former police officer to administrate its emergency and protective services.

Ken Morrison, a retired member of the Blackfalds RCMP, started in the job on Feb. 5. His responsibilities include oversight of the town’s peace officers, RCMP administration, fire and emergency management, and the community’s Occupational Health and Safety program.

Myron Thompson, CAO for the Town of Blackfalds, said the position was created to centralize the responsibilities of managing emergency and protective services. It should result in “increased efficiencies” for these important areas of operation, he added.

Morrison is the “best fit” for the job because of his years of experience with the police, his knowledge of the community, and working relationships with the local RCMP, as well as fire and emergency services, said Thompson, who welcomed him to the new position.

Morrison said he is looking forward to working with the police, peace officers, fire and emergency departments. “These experienced and dedicated professionals work together daily to ensure the town of Blackfalds is safe and prepared in the event of an emergency.”
