More charges have been laid against a Blackfalds man already before the court on accusations of various child pornography offences.

Brian Collin Haberman, 41, was arrested last fall after an investigation co-ordinated by the RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation team. He was charged with a range of offences, including luring a person under 18 to commit sexual acts; making, selling or distributing child pornography, possessing child pornography, and accessing child pornography.

He was released from custody on a number of conditions, including a requirement that he not possess any equipment capable of recording video or taking still photographs and that he have no communications with any child under 18.

He is represented by Edmonton-based defence counsel Kent Teskey, who had been negotiating a plea agreement with the Crown. Negotiations stalled on Friday, when new charges were brought into court after a second complainant came forward, special prosecutor Carolyn Ayres said on Monday.

The new charges, read to Haberman in Red Deer provincial court on Monday, include breaches of the release conditions as stated above. Incidents described in both sets of charges are alleged to have occurred over a period of time, starting on Jan. 1, 2014 and continuing to April 6 of this year.

Haberman’s counsel is scheduled to attend the court case management office on Aug. 22 to state his intentions.
