Blackfalds RCMP says the pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle on the QEII Highway earlier this month has been identified.

The family has been notified that the man is currently in hospital, police said in a press release on Saturday.

“Thank you so much to the public for your response to the previous media release,” said the RCMP, which released a composite sketch of the man this past week in an effort to identify him.

Police did not publicly state the identity of the man, who in a previous press release was described as 25 to 35 years old and 130 to 150 pounds, with a light complexion, brown curly hair and blue eyes.

The collision took place along the highway on Feb. 16 at the 32 Street exit in Red Deer. Northbound traffic was diverted for a few hours as officers investigated the incident.

The pedestrian was in “critical condition” and air-lifted to an Edmonton hospital, police said in a Feb. 16 press release.
