The Town of Blackfalds’ transit system is being impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The transfer station’s hours of operations changed to 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

BOLT Transit will experience changes as well. Scheduled routes after 8:20 p.m. will no longer be running. Additionally, BOLT Transit will not run Good Friday or Easter Monday.

The town recently announced more than 25 staff members had been laid off or had their contracts terminated early.

“While we tried our best to keep everyone working during this time; the fact that we had to extend facility closures into May, there was simply not enough work,” said community services director Sean Barnes.

“This decision has been tough on all of us, especially the staff who are directly affected and the managers who had to deliver the bad news.”

Town facilities were closed on March 16 and closures were recently extended from April 15 to May 15.
