Fire chief Jack MacDonald, left, head of the city’s Emergency Services department, and Supt. Brian Simpson, head of the city’s RCMP detachment, are readied by nurses to give blood Monday. The men kicked off the 2010 version of Sirens For Life, the annual month-long challenge between emergency services workers and RCMP officers that Canadian Blood Services hopes will bring in 800 donations. Last year’s competition was won by Emergency Services with 345 blood donations compared to the RCMP’s 330. Donors can dedicate their donations to either side through January with more information and appointment booking available by calling 1-8888-236-6283.
