A 16-year-old male from Bluffton was killed in a two-vehicle collision near Ponoka.

A 16-year-old male from Bluffton was killed in a two-vehicle collision near Ponoka.

Ponoka RCMP responded to crash on Saturday on Hwy 53 at Range Road 262. An eastbound pickup truck had driven into the rear of a flatdeck truck that had stopped on the highway to turn left onto the range road.

Ponoka fire and rescue workers helped remove the teenage driver from the crashed pickup truck. He was rushed to Ponoka hospital, then sent by STARS air ambulance to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton.

The young male died of his injuries at the hospital.

The driver of the flatbed truck was not uninjured.

Alcohol and road conditions were not believed to be factors in the collision. Police are not releasing the name of the deceased, and are still investigating the crash.
