Snowmobilers, riding along the Red Deer River, West of Big Valley, found an abandoned truck with a dead body nearby on Jan. 30 at 7:40 p.m., according to Stettler RCMP.

Police are in the process of identifying the body of the male that was found and the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary was expected to finish an autopsy as soon as Monday. Police say foul play has been ruled out.

“We’re certain that the body was there for many days or weeks,” said Sgt. Rowland Schmidt, with the Stettler RCMP detachment. “It is likely connected to people that have been reported missing in the past.”

The body was found near where Hwy 590 intersects with the Red Deer River in a secluded area that is entirely snowed in at this point.

The Stettler RCMP detachment is investigating with the assistance of Red Deer personnel from the major crime unit and the Red Deer RCMP forensic identification unit.
