Body found identified as that of missing teen

With the assistance of the Calgary Medical Examiner, the body that was discovered has been identified as the 16-year-old male who was reported missing on Sunday.

Police said there is no indication this incident was criminal in nature.

Shortly after noon on Sunday, Sylvan Lake RCMP were notified of the missing teen. Police investigation into the disappearance led them to the jurisdiction of the Rocky RCMP.

Police used Red Deer police dog services to search areas where the teen may have been seen, but they were unsuccessful.

The following morning, Monday, Rocky RCMP, along with RCMP Air Services, found the teen near the intersection of Hwys 12 and 761.

The Red Deer major crime unit, Rocky RCMP and the Calgary medical examiner continue to investigate this death and the cause of death is pending.

Police will not release the name of the teen at the request of the family.
