One morning, Myrna Pearman, with friend and cavity-nesting duck expert, Jim Potter, provided took the opportunity to photograph baby bufflehead ducks fledging. The box is about two and a half meters off the ground, close to a pond on his property. They sat for four hours, in the wind and in the company of mosquitoes, waiting for them to leave, and were finally rewarded with the amazing experience of witnessing and photographing these little black and white balls of fluff launch themselves out of the box and drop to the ground. They are so light that they aren’t hurt. Once they land, they listen to mom calling and frantically follow her to the water.
