Building permit values continue to decrease in July

Building permit values decreased in July, the City of Red Deer revealed on Thursday.

Building permit values decreased in July, the City of Red Deer revealed on Thursday.

There were 92 approved permits valued at $6 million last month, compared to 85 permits worth $16 million in July 2022.

“Year-to-date values remain lower in 2023, with current values at $45 million compared with $105.7 million last year,” the city stated in a media release.

Notable permits from last month include:

  • Construction of foundation for new worship facility at 394 Townsend Street, valued at $1.2 million
  • Construction of a truck bay addition at 5410 50 Avenue, valued at $550,000
  • Interior renovations for optical retailer and optometrist at 316 4900 Molly Banister Drive, valued at $335,000
  • Tenant improvements for dance studio at B2 2319 Taylor Drive, valued at $300,000
  • Construction of two modular classroom units at 4210 59 Street, valued at $280,000

July 2023 had 28 commercial permits valued at $1.3 million, five industrial permits valued at $827,000, nine public service permits valued at $2.2 million and 50 residential permits valued at $1.6 million.

Comparatively, July 2022 has the same number of commercial permits, but the value was $9.3 million. Additionally, July last year gas one industrial permit valued at $74,373, five public service permits valued at $4.5 million and 51 residential permits valued at $2.2 million.

Year-over-year, building permit values have decreased in every month of 2023 so far.
