Bundle up for a bitterly cold night central Alberta

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Tuesday night for Red Deer and central Alberta.

Temperatures will drop to about -30 C overnight which will produce wind chill values near -40 C by Wednesday morning. Frostbite is a risk.

People should dress warmly with layers and wear a wind-resistant outer layer. Pets are also at risk in the extreme cold.

Conditions are expected to improve Wednesday.

The Red Deer forecast calls for a high of -18 C on Wednesday, with a windchill of -41 C in the morning and -25 C in the afternoon.

On Wednesday night, the low will dip to -27 C, with a windchill near -34 C.
