As the co-owner of a spin studio, Alex Wood assumed that organizers of Sheraton Celebrity Dance Off contacted her to help get participants in shape — wrong.

Wood will be on the dance floor with professional dancer Peter Samoiia on April 13.

“It’s definitely nerve-wracking thinking about that night. My biggest fear is not remembering the choreography. I find myself awake thinking about it,” said Wood, co-owner of Ryde RD Spin Studio.

But through the process, Wood said she has enjoyed pushing the limits to do things she didn’t think she was capable of and realizing how far she has come since she started training.

Samoiia has also helped by nudging her in the right direction.

“I’ve noticed he actually pushes my body in a certain way to do the right moves,” Wood said with a laugh.

Wood said she has seen some talented dancers with extraordinary ability and strength at Dance Offs, recalling Duane Daines’ performance while in a wheelchair at the 2018 competition.

“It is a lot of fun. The whole night is a great experience to support a great cause.”

Wood said in the past, she has enjoyed cheering on dancers that she knew, and some of her supporters are coming from as far away as Spain.

She said it may be different being a performer rather than an audience member, but it will still be a great experience.
