Calgary men facing charges after stolen shotgun recovered

Police responded to a call of a suspicious man hiding in rural area

Two men are facing charges after Blackfalds RCMP responded to a call of a suspicious person hiding behind a truck in a rural area.

RCMP said they got the call about 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Blackfalds members, along with Red Deer Police Dog Services, and Alberta sheriffs immediately descended on the area and located a stolen pickup truck.

Shortly after, a male suspect was located along a roadway and arrested for weapons offences.

“A second male that had been seen leaving the stolen truck surrendered from a crop field when he heard the police dog approaching him,” said police.

A stolen truck, stolen loaded shotgun, along with several other stolen items were recovered from the suspects and scene.

Richard Allan Hicks, 31, of Calgary, Alberta has been charged with theft of a truck, obstructing a police officer, possession of stolen property and two counts of failing to comply with recognizances.

Joshua Anthony Anderson, 24, of Calgary, Alberta has been charged with possession of a firearm when prohibited (shotgun), possesssing ammunition when prohibited, carrying a concealed weapons (knife), possession of weapons dangerous to the public peace, possession of a restricted firearm, possession of stolen property and failing to comply with a probation order.

Both men have been remanded in custody and will appear before a judge in Red Deer Provincial Court on Tuesday.
