CALGARY — Calgary police say their homicide unit is investigating the third “suspicious death” in the city in two days.

They say in a release that the latest occurred Friday evening in the Crescent Heights neighbourhood.

Police say the victim and a friend left a restaurant on 2 Street S.W. at around 8:30 p.m. and were sitting in their SUV, parked in an alley behind the eatery, when they were attacked.

Investigators say “unknown offenders” appeared and fired “multiple rounds” into the vehicle, mortally wounding one of the men, who they described only as being in his twenties.

Police say the driver pulled away and called 911 while heading toward a hospital but stopped along 16 Ave. N.E. where emergency responders attended and pronounced the wounded man dead at the scene just before 9 p.m.

Police say it’s too early to determine whether this death is linked to two others currently under investigation, but they are asking anyone with information or possible surveillance video of the incident to contact them.
