Cannabis edibles will be available at some Red Deer stores on Wednesday.
Isaac Watson, vice president of product development and retail experience of Fire & Flower Cannabis Co., said the company’s two Red Deer locations will have soft gels, gummies, chocolates, and cookies.
“We’re pretty excited to see them come in. It’s the first time even our teams have seen them. We’ve been getting a lot of questions coming in from customers for the last couple of weeks,” Watson said.
He said the company got as much as they could, but there won’t be a lot of product. They will be on the website once they arrive and customers can reserve products in the stores.
“Our Saskatchewan stores have had some of these products now for the past two weeks. Everything sold out almost immediately and there’s been a lot of positive reception. We’re excited it’s finally time for Alberta.”

He said there will be other forms of edibles coming in a month or so, like teas.
“In the U.S. market, mints do extremely well. That’s probably going to be the product that over times surprises everyone and sells the best.”
Watson said edibles have a delayed effect so customers should start with a low dose and go slow.
“Having the delayed onset makes it potentially more likely people could over consume before they realize they’ve done that. That’s the most important conversation we’re having on our sales floors.”
He said effects can be felt with combustion in five to 10 minutes. People consuming edibles should wait 45 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes to understand how it makes them feel before they indulge too much.
