Several parts of Red Deer recently suffered power outages.
On Thursday, at about 3:30 p.m., an estimated 1,500 customers lost power in northeast neighbourhoods. Power was restored within 20 minutes to about two-thirds of the customers.
As the source of the outage was being investigated, city crews located a piece of equipment that had failed in the Parkland Mall area.
Crews were able to restore power to the remaining customers, with the exception of Walmart and a nearby apartment building, by 5 p.m.
The remaining two customers had their power restored by 7:20 p.m., after equipment was replaced, says the city.
On Friday, at 11:30 a.m., a 30-minute outage affected the same areas.
Crew continue to investigate, but the outage appears to be related to an underground cable feeding the piece of equipment that was replaced a day earlier, says the city.
Crews have made a further repair and will continue to monitor and test the equipment.
