RCMP have been busy this morning responding to accidents on area roads.

At about 9 a.m., police and Red Deer Emergency Services responded to an accident on the Hwy 2/Gaetz Avenue flyover on the south end of Red Deer.

A car northbound on Hwy 2 lost control and rolled into the centre median just below the flyover. One woman was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

RCMP briefly closed northbound Hwy 2 and diverted traffic into the city.

Also this morning, RCMP, Alberta Highway Services workers and tow-truck operators responded to an accident in which a truck left Hwy 2 and became tangled in the wire barricade in the median.

The southbound truck spun out just south of the Red Deer River bridge due to icy conditions and while the barrier kept it from crossing the median, removing it without further damaging the wire proved difficult.

Southbound traffic was backed up past the 67th Street overpass while the cleanup occurred.

The Alberta Motor Association reports that area highways from Olds to Ponoka and from Sylvan Lake to near Stettler are in fair condition only.

Caution is advised on all area highways.
