Centennial banners, barrels to be on display on Sept. 1

Historic banners and light barrels at City Hall Park are two events planned to celebrate Red Deer’s birthday on Sept. 1. The banners were originally intended to span the old CPR bridge during Red Deer’s Homecoming Weekend but were postponed because of the June flooding.

Historic banners and light barrels at City Hall Park are two events planned to celebrate Red Deer’s birthday on Sept. 1.

The banners were originally intended to span the old CPR bridge during Red Deer’s Homecoming Weekend but were postponed because of the June flooding.

The centennial committee will showcase 10 long red banners from each side of the bridge, displaying photos of historic Red Deer. The banners will be in place throughout the day.

Starting at dusk, light barrels will illuminate throughout City Hall Park. Rain barrels are still available for purchase for $70. They come with interior waterproof light, a recharge unit and remote control to set the colour of light and screened rainwater collection port and one tap.

If you buy one before Sept. 1 online, you can take your barrel home from the event after 11:30 p.m.

Place your order at www.reddeer2013.ca or visit the centennial office at 4816 50th Ave.

Birthday cake will also be served from the bridge and in the park.
