Central Alberta Bucs open AFL season with big win in Calgary

The Central Alberta Buccaneers started the Alberta Football League season on a strong note over the weekend.

The Bucs cruised past the Calgary Wolfpack with a dominant 55-34 victory.

Quarterback Brandon Leyh torched the Wolfpack, ripping off 622 passing yards and seven touchdowns. Tylor Johannesson picked up three receiving touchdowns, Slotback Axsivier Lawrence added a pair and wideouts Matthew Leyh and Ben Hnatiuk each added a score.

Johannesson had 228 receiving yards on seven receptions and Lawrence notched 198 yards on nine receptions.

Mark Fay also grabbed an interception and four tackles on defence, while Tade Tonneson and Dario Viveros each forced a fumble on special teams.

The Bucs will play their home opener on July 24 against the Airdrie Irish at Great Chief Park, with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
