Local businesses have come together to promote shopping local while at the same time, raising money for the Red Deer Christmas Bureau.

#BetterTogether is a central Alberta ‘shop local’ initiative created to help encourage shoppers to redirect their holiday spending into their local economy, while at the same time raising money for those in need.

Each participating business has donated products and/or services for the cause. To help incentivize shoppers to buy locally, anyone who submitted their receipts for purchases made across central Alberta were entered into a draw to win one of five of the donated items.

The remaining items have gone up for bid in a silent auction which will run online from Dec. 14 to 17, with all the proceeds from the auction going to the Red Deer Christmas Bureau.

#BetterTogether was spearheaded by Angela Hall, owner of Meadow Farm Florals, with the intention of making a difference in the community by supporting local business owners and helping to provide for those in need. With more than 110 local businesses participating, the goal is to raise $10,000 or more for the Red Deer Christmas Bureau.

To date, just shy of $20,000 in products/services has been donated to the auction by local businesses and over $64,000 of local spending has been recorded.
