A local brewery is teaming up with Central Alberta Co-op Liquor for the third straight year to support a charitable organization that helps women who are searching for work.

Field and Forge Brewing Co., based out of Innisfail, will be making an International Women’s Day brew, which will be sold at Co-op liquor store locations throughout central Alberta.

“We started doing these brews in 2020,” said Babette Dorn, Central Alberta Co-op liquor division manager.

“It’s been such a success because of our (staff), our members and the local community have supported it so well. … We’ve found that people love the beer, they look forward to the different beers that are coming out. It’s been a great collaboration and partnership with Field and Forge.”

A portion of each four-pack sold goes to Dress for Success Central Alberta, which aims to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support, and career development tools to help them thrive in work and in life.

“Dress for Success is a great (organization) for women looking to enter or re-enter the workforce who can’t afford the clothes for a job interview,” said Dorn.

“It’s great we’re able to give them a little bit of money to help them out.”

International Women’s Day is scheduled to happen on March 8. The goal is to have the brew available the seven Central Co-op Liquor locations – Stettler, Lacombe, Innisfail, Spruce View and the three Red Deer stores – in the days leading up to International Women’s Day.

“Ladies from Central Alberta Co-op will go out there to the brewery and we’re going to be packaging the beer on Feb. 24. We’ll get it all packaged and ready to go,” said Dorn.

Field and Forge Brewing Co. will also be selling the beer out of its tap room in Innisfail.

Josh Hauta, sales and community lead at Field and Forge, said it’s exciting to celebrate International Women’s Day through this brew.

“In our industry, there are a lot of great women doing cool stuff. This is a way we can honour them. We all have women in our lives we care about and (Dress for Success) is a great cause,” said Hauta.

The first two years of International Women’s Day brews were very successful, Hauta added.
