The company that maintains the province’s highways is warning drivers three to eight cms of snow are expected to accumulate in Central Alberta beginning Thursday night.

“Mainroad crews will be patrolling, clearing snow and applying winter abrasives and will continue to do so until the event passes and roadways are clear and back to normal,” said Mainroad Alberta Contracting in a news release on Thursday morning. “Winds could cause blowing snow and limited visibility.”

Mainroad reminds drivers to pay attention to changing road conditions and drive accordingly.

Drivers are advised that before heading out they should check 511 Alberta as well as local traffic and weather reports.

To report road conditions, call 1-877-875-3263. Mainroad’s 24-hour communications and dispatch office will pass on all observations and concerns to its crews when contacted.
