The Central Alberta Film Festival is returning next month with a new array of independent films from around the world.

Nearly 20 hours of feature-length and short films will be screened October 18-21 at Carnival Cinemas.

Organizers are now looking for volunteers to help run the seventh-annual festival, which they say will be presenting “some of the highest quality films in its history.”

CAFF submissions co-ordinator Heather Thiessen said 14 of the films scored at least eight out of 10 from a judging panel of directors, producers, and instructors from post-secondary film and arts departments.

“It’s exciting to see the quality… get better every year,” Thiessen said. “And it’s energizing to see the quality of filmmakers from Alberta. We have submissions from eight countries this year and our Alberta filmmakers are rocking it.”

The film festival, which ends with a gala award ceremony, is run entirely by volunteers. Eight to ten greeters and ticket-takers are needed to welcome audiences over the four-day event.

“If you love watching movies, especially films you can’t see in most theatres, volunteering for Central Alberta Film Festival is the way to go,” said Brent LaBrosse, CAFF Volunteer Coordinator.

Anyone interested should email LaBrosse at labross1@telus.net.
