A man accused of biting a police officer while he tried to escape from hospital has been charged.

Wetaskiwin RCMP said last Friday they responded to a call of a man carrying a firearm on Highway 2A.

A suspect was picked up by police and taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

RCMP allege that the suspect became “combative” in hospital towards police officers and bit one of them. The suspect was not injured in the altercation and remains in hospital due to concerns about his wellbeing, said police.

A 35-year-old man from Ermineskin First Nations at Maskwacis has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, assaulting a police officer, obstructing police and being unlawfully at large.
