A Louis Bull First Nation man was charged with attempted murder after an alleged kidnapping in Cree Nation community of Pigeon Lake.

Maskwacis RCMP said an adult female was abducted from a residence on Jan. 19 at about 11 p.m.

Police searched throughout the night for the suspect’s vehicle, and in the early morning hours were dispatched to a commercial business after a witness located a female with life-threatening injuries.

Police and EMS responded and confirmed she was the abducted victim. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and remained in serious condition.

At about 8 a.m., Maskwacis RCMP located and stopped the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect fled into a wooded area and was charged after a brief foot chase.

Maskwacis General Investigative Section, along with assistance from Red Deer Forensic Identification Services, are continuing the investigation.

Lionel Twins, 60, was charged with attempted murder, kidnapping without a firearm, aggravated assault, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and two counts of assault.

Twins was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin provincial court on Jan. 8 at 9:30 a.m.

As this matter is now before the courts and the investigation is ongoing, no further information will be provided from the RCMP.
