Central Alberta man faces drug trafficking and weapon charges

A 28-year-old Jarvis Bay man faces several drug and weapon charges following a drug trafficking investigation that began in September.

Sylvan Lake and Blackfalds RCMP conducted a joint investigation into alleged drug trafficking in Sylvan Lake, and on Oct. 18 a suspect was arrested and his truck was searched.

Police said they seized 17.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 34 grams of suspected cocaine, 10 grams of suspected fentanyl, a loaded handgun with the serial number removed, prohibited weapons including a conducted energy weapon, $9,740.00 in Canadian currency, items associated with drug trafficking, and a pickup truck.

Red Deer GIS, the Emergency Response Team and Red Deer Police Dog Services, assisted in locating and arresting the suspect.

The man was charged with 14 offences which included possession of a loaded prohibited weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, and three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking.

He was remanded into custody and will appear in Sylvan Lake Provincial Court on Nov. 4.
