One person has died in a multi-vehicle collision involving three semi-tractor trailers on Highway 2 early Thursday morning near the Crandall overpass.
Ponoka RCMP said it appeared that a semi-tractor trailer unit jackknifed and was struck by another semi-tractor trailer unit. A third tractor trailer unit was unable to stop and slid into the crash scene.
Details regarding any other injuries, or the number total vehicles, involved was not available Thursday morning.
Northbound lanes of the highway were closed and northbound traffic was being rerouted at the Highway 53 overpass.
An RCMP collision analyst had been called into assist with the investigation.
Freezing rain is believed to be a factor in this collision. Numerous Alberta highways were impacted by the freezing rain.
RCMP were requesting motorists take alternate routes and avoid the area of the collision, slow down and drive to the conditions.
