RCMP have seen an increase in thefts from unlocked vehicles and garages, and Olds RCMP want to remind residents to lock their doors.

Police said a thief can steal a vehicle in seconds, and an unlocked vehicle, or an open window, is an easy target. Most vehicle thefts, or thefts from vehicles, occur while it is parked in residential areas.

Vehicle owners should:

• Ensure vehicles are locked and windows are closed.

• Never leave keys in a vehicle.

• Remove all valuables from vehicles, or move from plain sight (phones, tablets, laptops, GPS, gifts, coins/currency, wallet, purse).

• Park in a well-lit highly visible area.

• Vehicle owners should use their garage and keep all garage doors locked.

• Consider installing motion lights around the property.

• Report anyone who is suspicious to police immediately.
