Central Alberta RCMP seize drugs and a stolen gun

Wetaskiwin RCMP arrested one man and seized drugs and a stolen handgun while searching three Wetaskiwin residences.

Wetaskiwin RCMP said police had been conducting an investigation into drug trafficking. On March 8 they excuted search warrants and found small amounts of suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl, as well as a stolen handgun, a stolen snowmobile, a prohibited taser, and Canadian currency believed to be proceeds of crime.

RCMP arrested multiple individuals on outstanding warrants as a result of the search warrants executed by the Wetaskiwin RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit and the Wetaskiwin Detachment.

A 49-year-old man, of Wetaskiwin County, was charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, possession of weapon obtained by crime, two counts of unsafe storage of firearms, two counts of possession of prohibited weapon, and four counts of possession of weapon contrary to order.

The man was released from custody and his next court appearance is set for April 7 at Wetaskiwin Provincial Court.
