Bashaw RCMP seized a loaded handgun and over 50 rounds of ammunition on Tuesday.

RCMP said a man wanted on multiple warrants was arrested after trying to flee on foot from police.

Police initially approached the man behind a residence where he was interacting with a woman in a vehicle. He ran, but was quickly located.

When police searched the vehicle and a bag, they found the gun and ammunition.

A 32-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested for two counts of careless use of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited firearm, and resisting arrest.

He was remanded into custody for a court appearance on March 24 at Red Deer Provincial Court.

A 30-year-old woman, of no fixed address, was charged with two counts of careless use of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited firearm, failing to comply with a release order, and cocaine possession.

She was released from custody and was scheduled to appear in court on May 12 in Stettler Provincial Court.

Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit and Stetller RCMP assisted in the arrests.
