Central alberta man launches Kickstarter for board game

A central Alberta resident has kickstarted a fantasy table top board game.

For Olds resident Wesley Woodbury playing board games with his children and wife is a long-time family tradition.

Recently, he took his interest and passion and launched a Kickstarter for Legends of Novus – an epic fantasy adventure.

“You can play it solo, and players go travel around new fantasy world, earning gold and experience and trying to defeat creatures (like dragons and goblins) that roam the world, so it’s a big fantasy epic story and you can play in an hour to an hour and a half,” Woodbury said.

Playing a fantasy game in about 60 to 90 minutes is one of the aspects that sets the board game apart. He explained most fantasy games on the market are created for longer term play.

The game also provides different experience because players experience a self-directed path on the map versus a linear path.

Legends of Novus has become an international project with the artist of the game based in Italy, manufacturing based in China and the distributor based in the U.S.

“And I’m here in Canada,” the creator said, adding he found people to work with online.

Woodbury, who started working at a comics book store at the age of 16, really got into board games. Later in his life, he started creating board games.

This time around, Woodbury indeed has a bigger goal – to raise about $33,000 for the Legends of Novus before Thursday.
