Central Alberta Woodturners Guild wants to donate about a dozen wooden wig stands to local cancer patients.
Glen Boettger, guild board member, said the Edmonton guild made wig stands that were quite popular, so the central Alberta guild members recently crafted similar stands to make life a little easier for people facing cancer.
“We thought it would be a really good thing to do,” Boettger said.
But so far the guild has been unable to find a local hospital, or cancer support group, who could distribute them to those who can use them, he said.
“We’ve been trying. Our next step is to donate them to Edmonton or Calgary. We’d rather see them stay here in central Alberta.”

Each wig stand is unique, but most are about 25 cm tall with a tray at the base to hold small items. Carved from different types of wood, none of the stands have an oil finish that could possibly stain a wig.
