Central zone up to 92 active COVID-19 cases Friday

There were 105 new cases of COVID-19 in Alberta on Friday.

Health officials have expressed concern that COVID numbers are on the rise. On Thursday, Alberta added 120 cases, the first time since May 2 that the province had more than 100 cases.

According to Alberta government data on the virus, there are now 859 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 8,193 cases are listed as recovered.

There were two additional deaths Friday, bringing the provincial total to 167.

One of the deaths was in the Calgary zone and the other was in the Edmonton zone.

In the central zone, there are now 92 active cases, up from 75 on Thursday, according to the government’s geospatial mapping of the virus. Ninety-four cases in the zone are listed as recovered.

The City of Red Deer now has eight active cases, with 38 listed as recovered.

Red Deer County, Lacombe County and the County of Paintearth are up to five active cases each.

The County of Stettler remains the hardest hit in the region, with 12 active cases.

The Town of Drumheller now has nine active cases, while Ponoka County has seven active cases of the virus, as does Kneehill County.

The City of Camrose, Flagstaff County and Mountainview County also all have three cases.

Wetaskiwin and the County of Wetaskiwin have no active cases. Lacombe, Sylvan Lake, Olds, Rocky Mountain House also all have no active cases.

The Calgary zone is up to 385 active cases, with 5,287 recoveries. They have 16 people in hospital and three in the ICU.

Meanwhile, in the Edmonton zone, there are 213 cases, with 1,098 recoveries. Twenty-eight people are still in hospital, with four people in the ICU.

The government announced it has completed 566,972 tests, including more than 6,000 screenings in the past 24 hours.
