Red Deer’s Centrefest street performer’s festival is partnering with the Meet the Street Festival.

Both will take place Sept. 3 and 4 on Ross Street and between 49 Avenue and 50 Avenue on Little Gaetz.

The joint event will be free, and guests of all ages are welcome.

Highlights will include tours of new murals being painted this summer, as well as live music, vendors, kids’ activities (including Circus World), and Centrefest’s exciting street performances.

“After a two-year hiatus, we are thrilled to return with such amazing support and partnership with The City of Red Deer,” said Robert Palmer, artistic director of Red Deer Summer Centrefest Society. “Being able to combine these two incredible events to provide a celebration of visual, musical, and performance art is something we have been dreaming of for many years.”

Leading up to the festival, 12 new murals will be painted in various downtown Red Deer locations over the summer. The chosen artists are: PJ Gilhuly, Slugger Studio, Josh Creighton, Chloe Marie Purcell, Moonlight Murals Collective, Kayla Bellerose, a.k.a. bb iskwew, Fatspatrol, Sarah Johnston, Jason Trotter, Sbuone, Borrris, Michael Burt of Trackside Studio Art and Murals.

Artist mentor-ees include Emily Promise Alison and Demi Wilson.

“We’re excited to continue the momentum that the first Meet the Street brought to downtown Red Deer last summer, and we’re thrilled to partner with Centrefest,” said Bobby-Jo Stannard, the city’s community development superintendent.

She believes street performances are a natural fit with the creative energy of the Meet the Street Festival.
