Red Deer RCMP said charges are pending in a shooting in Highland Green on Monday.

About 3:30 p.m., RCMP received a report that a vehicle had been shot at while driving past a residence on Hepworth Close. Police immediately contained the scene and the RCMP Emergency Response Team was called in.

No one was injured in the shooting.

“During the initial stages of the investigation, a residence was identified and two individuals were detained,” said police Tuesday. “These individuals were released a short time later as officers determined they were not involved.

“Further investigation led officers to a nearby residence, where the alleged shooter was identified and arrested without incident.”

The investigation continues and charges are pending, said RCMP.

Police said the incident was not related to other events that occurred in Red Deer, including an incident on Monday night at the parkade at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

RCMP said at about 9 p.m. a confrontation occurred between officers and a driver. Officers fired their weapons and fatally injured the man.

Police reminded the public not to post photos of unfolding police events on social media for privacy and safety reasons.
