Two people face charges after an alleged assault and threat at a convenience store in Red Deer on Wednesday.

City RCMP were called to a convenience on Gaetz Avenue after a witness to a fight was threatened with a knife. At about 10 a.m., police responded to the complaint, initially a man assaulting a woman at the store.

A witness attempted to intervene when he saw a man pushing a woman at the store. When the witness asked the man to stop assaulting the woman and to leave, the man instead allegedly assaulted the witness and then produced a knife, threatening the witness.

The witness then called the RCMP.

The male and female, and a second male and female left the area together on foot before police arrived. All four were soon located.

Shortly before this complaint was called in, police discovered an abandoned car nearby that had been reported stolen on Jan. 11. Keys to the stolen vehicle were found on one of the females and the vehicle registration and insurance information was in the possession of a male suspect, who is now accused of the assault.
