Calgary police say charges are pending against a woman after her son died of an infection that was treated with holistic remedies instead of antibiotic medication.

CALGARY — Calgary police say charges are pending against a woman after her son died of an infection that was treated with holistic remedies instead of antibiotic medication.

Police say a seven-year-old boy died on March 2 in hospital after having a seizure at home.

Detectives say the boy had been bedridden for up to 10 days before he died.

They say he had a strep infection that could have been treated with penicillin.

The charges including criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessities of life.

The woman’s name will not be released until she appears before a judge and is formally charged.
