About 120 swimmers splash into Gull Lake’s chilly waters at the start of the third annual Lacombe RV Charity Triathlon Monday. After swimming 750 metres, competitors rode their bikes 20 km into Lacombe before running another five km to the finish line at Canadian University College. The event was won for the second year in a row by Bernie Maillet with a time of 1:09:18.9. A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit Lacombe Family and Community Support Services’ children’s programs as well as the Canadian Humanitarian Organization for International Relief whose Ethiopian projects provide orphans and vulnerable children and their families with access to nutrition, shelter, health care, education and vocational training.
