City changes vaccine requirements for youth activities at recreation facilities

After clarification from the provincial government, the City of Red Deer has released new guidelines for youth participants at city recreation facilities.

In a news release, the city says that volunteers for organized sport groups can enter to perform their activity-related responsibilities without proof of vaccination, exemption, or negative COVID-19 test and youth sport, fitness and performance participants can take part in their activities without proof of vaccination, exemption or negative COVID-19 test.

Any spectator between the ages of 12-17 will have to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to enter city recreation facilities.

Adults 18 or older will also have to show proof of vaccination, a medical exemption or a negative COVID-19 test conducted within 72 hours of entering the facility.

Originally, the city had announced that any visitor to city facilities over the age of 12 would have to present proof of vaccination, a medical exemption or a negative COVID-19 test.

Starting this week, anyone unable to wear a mask will be required to provide a medical exemption letter from an authorized health professional.
