Red Deerians will be eligible for an energy rebate if they install a smart thermostat or a high-efficiency dishwasher.

The Energy Efficiency Rebate Pilot Program, developed to help Red Deerians decrease energy consumption and support them to improve energy efficiency in their homes, offers a $50 rebate to those who replace their home thermostat with a smart thermostat and a $100 rebate to those who replace their low-efficiency dishwasher with a high-efficiency model.

“There are environmental and financial benefits to using smart thermostats and high-efficiency dishwashers, in addition to improving home comfort,” said Phil Boehme, Community Development Coordinator.

“Participants could see a reduction in energy use of up to 12 per cent and a reduction in water use of up to 30 per cent, as well as a decrease of the non-fixed portion of their energy bills. Saving energy is one way to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to climate change.”

Rebates are eligible for Red Deer residents only and only one rebate of each type is available per utility account. The deadline to apply is Dec. 31, 2022.

Those who are eligible must have purchased a new smart thermostat or high-efficiency dishwasher in 2022 and installed the equipment for use at a property in Red Deer. You also don’t qualify if you have previously participated in the program or are participating in other funding programs such as the federal Greener Homes Grant and Loan Program.
