The City of Red Deer is providing citizens with safe ways to enjoy the water as the heatwave continues.

City officials provided a list of responsible river use Tuesday, including wearing life jackets and using proper floatation devices.

They encourage people using the river not to tie rafts, tubes or dinghies together, to be prepared for unexpected conditions, and not consume alcohol on the river.

To help keep animals cool, the city also provided several tips for pet owners. They ask owners to avoid all contact with algal blooms and be careful if feeding fish or fish trimmings to pets. Users should remain cautious when entering any body of water.
