City of Red Deer grants available for new downtown attraction events

The City of Red Deer is offering another funding opportunity for “community-led activations” in downtown Red Deer

“Downtown is the vibrant heart of Red Deer, animated by spaces to gather, connect, entertain and reflect, all year long,” states a release from the city.

The Downtown Activation 4 Seasons Grant returns to support community-led initiatives supported by local not-for-profit organizations. These grants are intended to enliven underutilized spaces through short-term activations and to provide financial support for community-led projects that draw people downtown.

“We all have a role to play in contributing to the vitality we want to experience when visiting the downtown,” said Bobby-Jo Stannard, Community Development Superintendent.

“This funding opportunity empowers citizens to take action… to support the goals of the Downtown Activation Playbook, which defines what a vibrant downtown looks like for Red Deer.”

Applications will be evaluated based on the following eligibility criteria:

- Contribute to a four-season strategy with focus on spring, fall and winter activations

- Enliven the streets with short-term attractions

- Leverage underutilized downtown spaces

- Increase downtown attractions for residents and visitors

Applications may be submitted online via SmartSimple (reddeer.smartsimple.ca). The deadline is Wednesday, May 1, at 4 p.m.

More information on this and other funding opportunities through The City of Red Deer are available on The City’s website, www.reddeer.ca/grants.
