If you are a skilled mural artist, or a property owner with exterior walls that could use sprucing up, the City of Red Deer needs you.

If you are a skilled mural artist, or a property owner with exterior walls that could use sprucing up, the City of Red Deer needs you.

Meet the Street returns to Red Deer in 2022 with calls for mural artists and downtown wall spaces. The City of Red Deer is seeking skilled Canadian artists to complete nine new murals in downtown Red Deer.

Property owners who wish to contribute walls to the project in the historic downtown are also being sought.

Last summer, 15 new murals were created in Red Deer’s downtown area by 14 artists. Meet the Street 2022 will include nine new murals “in underutilized spaces.” These will be transformed into welcoming community spaces through creativity.

Five locations will be selected for the Transformation Challenge. Artists will work with building owners to create a plan to beautify and improve the sites. Plans will incorporate a new mural as well as site clean-up, urban gardening, creation of social space, and other ideas. A project team will match up the partnerships and oversee the process.

Meet the Street is also expanding to include two community-based murals, designed by a professional artist and created by volunteers, and two mentorship murals (design and production by experienced artist supported by an emerging artist).

Those interested are asked to provide an Expression of Interest to the City. More information is available at www.reddeer.ca/MeetTheStreet.
